Things I Learned @ Kern Tech Fest

I met Alice Keeler she was the keynote speaker.  I was super excited to hear her speak and we took a group picture with her at the end of the day.  I follow her on twitter and continue to learn from her on a daily basis because she is all about GAFE and I love GAFE.

The first session I went to wasn't new information to me because I've played with chromebooks and have used GAFE with them.  During this session, I found myself wanting to answer some of the questions people were asking.  I thought oh my would I be able to do a presentation in the future.

However, during my third session, I learned about three new websites: Kahoot, Quizizz and Formative.  They are all great resources for checking for understanding in a fun new way through technology.  My favorite was Kahoot and I was so excited to learn all about it.  The person presenting had us play a few rounds and I couldn't stop thinking how I would use it on Monday in class.

For my last session, I went to a Google Chrome presentation.  I wasn't sure what it was going to be about but Hans Tullman was presenting so I new I would learn a lot and have fun.  I learned some bookmarking tips such as "command D", folders (if you know me you know I love folders for organization), and special settings.

I hate to admit this but I didn't know about Google Extensions.

My favorite extensions were scissors, google shortening, and bitmoji.  I shared them with my grade level the day I went back to work and they were in awwww.  I can't say enough about how much I enjoyed spending a Saturday learning more about technology.

iPhone video...love

The ability to take such great video on a phone amazes me. I remember growing
up with my dad having a hug video recorder that sat on his shoulder.  Looking back I can't believe how big it was.
Today I was putting my daughter to bed and after story time she said my turn to read.  I said one second I need to get my phone.  It literally took me one second and I was ready to record.  I now have a video of my daughter that will last forever.  I love how she read the title and then said by Tad Hill.  She also used her finger to track the words...love love love!

Kern Tech Fest

So we are officially on break, I know Cynthia and I are EXCITED!
I'm excited to have some time to spend with my daughter who turns 4 years old this week.  My in-laws will be arriving this week as well for a visit from Kentucky.  This week is also my 10 year wedding anniversary.  So it is definitely a week filled with family and celebration.

Even though this week will be filled with family time, my week is also filled with homework, lesson planning and the Kern Tech Fest.  This weeks homework is focused on Google and I must say I LOVE Google Apps for Education.

I simply can't wait to attend the Kern Tech Fest.  Alice Keeler  http://www.alicekeeler.com/teachertech/ will be the keynote speaker and I am so excited to be there.  I follow Alice on twitter and I have learned so much from her.  I am currently working on figuring out my schedule for the day of the Tech Fest http://kerncuetechfest2015.sched.org/.

I'm also working on my lesson plans for next week but I know after the Tech Fest I will likely be adjusting  my lesson plans.  Always excited to learn and grow professionally!
